While Stefan Raab presented the first edition of his streaming show on Wednesday, he was also the topic of discussion in his old home “TV total”.
On September 18th, Stefan Raab’s (57) former baby “TV total” and his new streaming show “Du gewinnst hier nicht die Million” ran parallel to each other for the first time. And of course, many viewers were curious to see if and how Sebastian Pufpaff (48) would react to the new competition.
Several TV observers see Raab’s new project as a frontal attack on the show on his . Because it’s not just the programming on Wednesday evening that is probably no coincidence – Raab’s new show is strikingly similar to “TV total” in terms of presentation and content. In addition to the distinctive narrator voice, he has also brought the long-standing band Heavytones with him. Pufpaff responded to the new competition with humor and new musicians.
While Raab started off by making fun of celebrities such as Regina Halmich (47) and Peter Maffay (75) in his usual manner, “TV total” and Pufpaff took a few swipes at the new competitor. Right at the start, they said: “He was gone for seven days. We didn’t see him for seven days. Nobody knows if he’s really coming. And if so, what will he look like? Here is – but only maybe – Sebastian Pufpaff.” The presenter then appeared and imitated Raab slowly walking down the stairs before the boxing match on September 14th. Pufpaff then posed like a muscleman and made fun of Raab with puny table fireworks in his hand. After all, the TV icon, who was back on TV for the first time since 2015 late on Saturday evening, had been celebrated by the audience with fireworks and on a podium.
Klinke Surpremes replaced the Heavytones
It was also exciting to see how the show would deal with the short-term loss of the house band Heavytones. The show group was formed in 2001 at the request of Stefan Raab for his late-night show “TV total” and was also part of the new edition from 2021. On September 17, the band surprisingly announced their departure in a post: “Last Wednesday was our last participation in the cult show ‘TV total’ on Pro7.” Instead, the Heavytones are now entertaining on Raab’s “Du gewinnst hier nicht die Million”. The musicians were also there at the boxing match on September 14. But a replacement was quickly found.
In the show on September 18, Pufpaff went on a search. In front of the empty dressing room, he mocked in a clip: “On RTL+? That’s not television. Where can I get a band now? Ah, we’re going to the musicians’ prostitution.” Then he drove through Cologne in a van and invited any musician he met. Using a kind of Tinder app, he hired keyboardist and producer Jan Klinkenberg, one of the most successful show band musicians in Germany, as band leader. He has already worked with many industry greats such as Helene Fischer (40), Bill and Tom Kaulitz (both 35) and Sarah Connor (44). The new show band has already presented itself alongside Pufpaff on Instagram.
There is no gap in “TV total” – and the new competition did not dampen the ratings either. As in the previous week, 1.05 million viewers tuned in.
