The seventh season of “Black Mirror” is gradually taking shape: The new episodes will be as dystopian as they are star-studded.
The science fiction series “Black Mirror” is known not only for its dystopian predictions of the future but also for its star-studded episodes. This will not change in the seventh season of the Netflix production, as reported. The next six episodes, which are expected to be released in 2025, will feature a recently Oscar-nominated character actor and a “The Crown” star.
According to “Variety”, Paul Giamatti (57) will be on board, who was nominated for an Academy Award in the category “Best Actor” earlier this year thanks to his role in “The Holdovers” – but had to admit defeat to “Oppenheimer” star Cillian Murphy (48). The second big name is Emma Corrin (28): The actress, who celebrated her breakthrough thanks to her portrayal of the young Princess Diana in “The Crown”, will also be seen in one of the new “Black Mirror” episodes.
Numerous new arrivals and some returnees
Other announced stars include musician and actress Awkwafina (36), former “Doctor Who” Peter Capaldi (66), “The Office” star Rashida Jones (48), “The IT Crowd” actor Chris O’Dowd (44) and “Barbie” actress Issa Rae (39).
Meanwhile, there is a “Black Mirror” reunion with Cristin Milioti (39), Billy Magnussen (39), Jimmi Simpson (48), Milanka Brooks (41) and Osy Ikhile, who all appeared in the season four episode “USS Callister”. Season seven will therefore be the first time in the series’ history that there will be a sequel to an episode.
“Black Mirror” is a so-called anthology series, which means that each of the individual episodes tells a self-contained story. The theme of the episodes is a – usually dystopian – sequel to a current everyday technical product. For example, dating and rating apps, surveillance systems, TV shows or artificial intelligence.
