Actor Heinz Hoenig is back home. His wife Annika, who is a trained nurse, now wants to take care of him – in addition to their two small children.
After his long period of treatment in hospital, Heinz Hoenig is back home with his family. The “Bild” newspaper reports this, citing his wife Annika, and shows several photos of the return transport and the homecoming.
The 72-year-old actor left the clinic in Berlin on Thursday after 143 days and was taken by ambulance to Blankenburg in the Harz Mountains.
“Bild” quotes Hoenig’s wife as saying: “At first he could hardly believe that he was finally back home.” Her husband was very happy to be back with his family and children. The couple has two young sons, three years old and one year old. They were very happy that their father was out of the hospital.
Actor Heinz Hoenig does not have health insurance
The actor’s illness had a big impact on many people in Germany. On the one hand, because his situation seemed critical at times, and on the other hand, because Hoenig does not have health insurance and the long treatment means high costs for him and his family.
In January he was still seen in the RTL jungle camp – but then he suddenly felt ill. In May he had to go to the hospital because of acute heart problems. It turned out that his esophagus was infected with bacteria. The organ had to be removed and Hoenig spent more than 100 days in intensive care.
His condition was considered very critical at times, he was in a coma and had to be artificially ventilated. He is now able to breathe on his own again, the report says.
According to Bild, his wife is now taking care of him at home. However, this home care is only possible because she is a trained nurse. Her husband would not have been discharged from the hospital if she had not worked in the medical field, she told the newspaper.
There is still a long way to go before he is fully recovered. Hoenig must continue to take medication, is fed artificially through a gastric tube and is in a wheelchair.
