Johnny Depp will be honored with a lifetime achievement award at the Rome Film Festivalwhere Modi – Three Days on the Wing of Madness – his film about 72 hours in the life of the Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani – will premiere in Italy after its presentation in San Sebastian.

Modi, starring the Italian Riccardo Scamarcio as the evil painter and sculptor who became famous for the innovative modern style of his portraits and nudes, will be screened in the non-competitive Grand Public section in Rome before being released in Italy by new production/distributor Be Water in conjunction with Maestro Distribution and Medusa Film.
In addition to Scamarcio, the film’s star-studded cast also includes Al Pacino as international art collector Maurice Gangnat, Antonia Desplat, Stephen Graham, Bruno Gouery, Ryan McParland and Sally Phillips.

Modi It takes place in Paris during World War I, over the course of 72 turbulent hours “that will become a turning point in his life and ultimately cement his reputation as an artistic legend,” according to the synopsis provided in the film.
The film is produced by Barry Navidi Prods. and IN.2 Films with Andrea Iervolino, CEO of Ilbe Group.
Modi marks Depp’s return to directing after his debut in 1997 with the film The Bravewhich received very negative reviews. It is also one of the actor’s first projects since his 2022 court battle with his ex-wife Amber Heardin which he sued her for defamation after she accused him of domestic abuse. Depp eventually won the case, although the controversy caused by it has affected his career. He made his festival comeback at Cannes last year with a starring role in Jeanne du Barry of Maiwenn.
The 19th edition of the Rome Film Festival will take place from 16 to 27 October.
