Acting legend Javier Bardem spoke highly of his wife Penélope Cruz at the San Sebastián Film Festival.
The Spanish Oscar winner Javier Bardem (55) addressed loving words to his wife Penélope Cruz (50) during an appearance at the film festival in San Sebastián. Bardem received the Donostia Prize for his life’s work at the renowned film festival. On stage, he dedicated the award to Cruz, among others, and described her as “a woman I love and with whom I have shared a life”.
Moving words from Javier Bardem
Bardem was actually supposed to receive the Donostia Award for his lifetime achievement last year. But last year’s actors’ strike in the USA prevented him from taking part in the 71st edition of the film festival. The actor, who is known from films such as the sci-fi hit “Dune: Part Two” or the Coen work “No Country for Old Men”, also thanked his late mother, the Spanish actress Pilar Bardem (1939-2021), as well as his older siblings Mónica (60) and Carlos (61), who also presented Bardem with the award.
The latter raised him “at a time when my mother had to work 24 hours a day.” He thanked them for their “attention and love.” Addressing his wife Cruz, Bardem then said: “I want to express my deep gratitude for the kind of person you are and how you can be responsible for life, for the lives of your children, the lives of your family, your mother, your friends, the lives of others.”
Cruz, who was sitting in the audience, then received air kisses from her husband, who was on stage. She has been married to him since 2010. The couple share two children: Leo (13) and Luna (11).
