Amazon launched a new service for purchases made from Argentina that seeks to break down economic barriers that often discourage local consumers: offers a flat rate of $5 for shipping purchases made from the Amazon United States website.
Anyway, some restrictions applysince not all products are sold under the same promotion. Among the aspects to take into account is also the maximum value allowed per package, which cannot exceed $1,000.
In addition, it is advisable to verify that the product selected for purchase qualifies for this promotion, since There are exclusions for products of large size, weight or specific category.
Instead, if the product is eligible, the “Flat Rate Shipping” option will appear automatically on the checkout screen.
“When you checkout for items that qualify for flat-rate shipping, you will only see the flat-rate shipping charge of $5 per order, instead of paying shipping costs based on the number or weight of the items,” Amazon explains on its page.
The promotion is not exclusive to Argentina, as it also includes other countries such as Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Ecuador, and Trinidad and Tobago.
Shipments are made through the service of courieralso known as door to doorsince it allows products to arrive directly to the buyer’s home without the need to carry out procedures at Customs.
In addition to calculating the shipping cost, in this case the flat rate is $5, Amazon will charge an initial estimate of import taxes, which could vary from the actual amount paid to the Argentine authorities.
If the amount charged for taxes is higher than the actual value, Amazon will automatically refund the difference by crediting it to the same payment method used during the purchase once the customs process in Argentina has been completed.
The news of the flat rate promotion immediately generated the reaction of users on social networksmainly X, who compared Amazon shipping prices with Free marketwith criticism of Marcos Galperín’s platform.
Faced with this situation, the founder of Mercado Libre took to the same social network to harshly respond to his critics: “There are few things I enjoy more than seeing resentful lefties getting happy when a Yankee company comes to Argentina. The cultural battle is being won! VLLC!”
