Thomas Gottschalk has once again spoken about the difficult time of his separation from his wife Thea. Mike Krüger was always at his side.
The separation of Thomas Gottschalk (74) and his long-time wife Thea Gottschalk (78) came as a surprise to many observers in March 2019. For over 40 years, the two were considered a dream couple in the German celebrity scene. In the year the separation was announced, Gottschalk spoke about his “guilty conscience”. After marrying his new partner Karina Mroß (62) on August 23 in Ibiza, Gottschalk has now made similar statements.
Thomas Gottschalk was plagued by “pangs of conscience”
In the podcast “Die Supernasen”, which Gottschalk has together with his long-time companion Mike Krüger (72), he spoke again about his feelings and doubts before the separation from Thea Gottschalk – and how his confidant Mike Krüger supported him during this difficult time. “One of them was that I let you in on my, let’s say, pangs of conscience relatively early on. [eingeweiht] because I had suddenly, in fact, fallen in love again and didn’t know what would happen next,” Gottschalk describes the time.
After he met Karina Mroß at a birthday party on August 23, 2018, he said, he thought about what to do next. Should he break up with Thea? Krüger came to his aid and advised him: “Follow your instincts. [Bauchgefühl]!” Gottschalk then did just that.
Mike Krüger even lied to his wife
In the latest episode of the “Supernasen” podcast, the 72-year-old also reveals how loyal Mike Krüger was to his long-time friend during this difficult time for Gottschalk. Not even his wife Birgit was privy to his conversations with Gottschalk. She only found out about the separation through the media, and not from her well-informed husband.
“In the morning in Miami, I was lying in bed with Birgit, we looked out at the sea and Birgit read the online news from Germany and said to me: ‘It says here that Thomas Gottschalk is leaving his wife.’ And I said: ‘What? That can’t be true!'” Krüger recalls.
But he couldn’t fool his wife about this for long. The comedian admits: “Of course she’s known me for ages and she can see straight away that I already knew this.”
