Måneskin singer Damiano David is starting his solo career so he can tell his own story, as he reveals in an interview.
With Måneskin he achieved world fame. Now Damiano David (25) wants to start out as a solo artist. On September 27th, he releases his first solo single, “Silverlines,” which shows fans a different side of the “I Wanna Be Your Slave” singer. In an interview with the news agency spot on news, he explains what motivated him to pursue his solo career and how his bandmates from Måneskin reacted to this news.
What was your main motivation for starting a solo career?
Damiano David: I wanted to tell a different part of my story that I hadn’t really been able to tell up until that point. I felt the need to be completely honest with those who will hear my songs. I felt like it was the right moment to do this.
How did your Måneskin bandmates react when you told them that you wanted to start a solo career?
David: Everyone was already doing their own thing. So it wasn’t really a big deal for her.
How similar or different will your music be as a solo artist if your fans only know you from Måneskin?
David: It will definitely be very, very different and I would say it will be a completely different genre. It will be very recognizable. It’s definitely pop. It’s such a big genre.
How much of the “real” Damiano will be in your new songs?
David: In these songs it’s 120 percent.
They said, “I love the feeling of nice clothes and the smell of a great perfume.” As for your new look, you’ll be wearing a suit that’s different from what Måneskin fans are familiar with. What will your look and fashion style be like in the future as a solo artist?
David: I’ll definitely be wearing more of these. Nice, expensive clothes.
What are the plans for an album or tour after your first song?
David: The first song, then a few songs, an album and a tour. Classic.
Are there any specific cities or places you want to perform in?
David: I don’t know. We have to wait and see how many people will come.
Which artists would you like to collaborate with for new songs?
David: There are some extremely cool people out there like Lana Del Ray and Lady Gaga. There are a lot of crazy, very good people out there.
In a teaser video, you explained, “I traveled all over the world to find my voice, only to end up where it all began,” and “today is the first day of my life.” What does this first day of your life look and feel like?
David: I spent the last year creating an environment for myself where I could feel safe enough to just be myself and not suppress my feelings. I feel comfortable sharing my thoughts – and not just the positive ones. This is what it means to enter this new environment that I have created.
