Duchess Meghan: Angry emails at night and high staff turnover

Duchess Meghan is once again criticized as boss. There was already talk of bullying by the actress in the British royal family. Now it’s about anger emails.

With two small children you often get up in the early hours of the morning. But most people would then turn their attention to their children and not their laptop to send angry emails.

Duchess Meghan seems to give the saying “got up on the wrong foot” a whole new dimension. Former employees of the Duchess report angry emails to staff at 5 a.m. Although these emails usually contain the addition: “My working day may not be your working day. Please do not feel obligated to answer this email outside of your normal working hours,” they start the day with an angry message from the boss , but it probably won’t be nice for anyone.

The magazine “Hollywoodreporter” published a report in September that shows how high the fluctuation of employees at Sussex really is. Duchess Meghan was once confronted with allegations of bullying at Buckingham Palace, which the Queen had investigated at the time. The high staff turnover of the exiting royals suggests that there is some truth to the rumors. After just three months as chief of staff, Josh Kettler, a consultant from Santa Barbara, resigned from the Sussexes in August. Before Kettler, other key people left Harry and Meghan’s team: Toya Holness, their press secretary until 2022, and Christine Weil Schirmer, former communications director at Pinterest, who stepped down as the Sussexes’ PR boss in 2021.

Also no longer on board: Samantha Cohen, a top advisor and private secretary to Meghan, ended her job in 2021. Previously, Keleigh Thomas Morgan, a partner at Sunshine Sachs, worked for Meghan when she was an actress on Suits. After the engagement, she also took Harry on as a client and helped the couple set up their communications department in California.

Employees of the Archewell charity, such as Catherine St-Laurent, who ran it for a year, also resigned. Mandana Dayani, who served as Archewell’s COO, also left.

In addition, things don’t seem to have gone smoothly with Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry’s other projects: Ben Browning, who was involved as head of content in the Netflix documentary about Harry and Meghan, moved to FilmNation and marketing boss Fara Taylor also ended it business relationship.

However, Duchess Meghan seems to have a completely different perception of herself than her former employees. In her podcast “Archetypes”, which took a break for almost two years and returned with a new episode at the end of September, she talked about the difficulties of asserting herself and overcoming her natural reluctance in professional situations.

She talked about how she often notices herself ducking or sneaking quietly into a room. It is particularly unpleasant for her when, out of embarrassment, she makes sentences sound like questions by increasing the emphasis at the end. “You think, ‘Stop it, don’t whisper or sneak around. Just say what you need. It’s OK to set boundaries. It’s OK to be clear – that doesn’t make you demanding or difficult, “but simply clear,” said the Duchess.
