For life’s work: Julia Roberts receives honorary César

Nice award for a “Pretty Woman”: Julia Roberts will be the next recipient of the Honorary César.

The American actress Julia Roberts (56) will ring in the coming year with a prestigious award. As the organizers of the event’s upcoming 50th César Awards ceremony have announced, the “Pretty Woman” star will be awarded the honorary César for his life’s work on February 28, 2025.

The reasons for this choice are stated, among other things: “She achieved international recognition in 1990 with the role of Vivian Ward in ‘Pretty Woman’. This cult film, directed by Garry Marshall, elevated her to the rank of global superstar alongside Richard Gere managed to win people’s hearts with her radiant smile and performance.” She also succeeded in doing this in numerous other works, from comedies to dramas such as “Erin Brockovich,” for which Roberts received an Oscar.

A star on and off the big screen

The press release continues: “Julia Roberts is not only a movie star, but also a cultural icon whose influence extends far beyond her performances. Off the screen, she is committed to charitable causes, serving as a UNICEF ambassador and supporting numerous humanitarian efforts “As an environmental activist, she has lent her voice to documentaries about protecting the planet and is an active advocate for women’s rights.”

In recent years, this honor has been given to a number of well-known stars. In 2022, Oscar winner Cate Blanchett (55) received the César d’Honneur, followed the following year by director David Fincher (62, “Seven”). This year there were two award winners: French actress Agnès Jaoui (59) received the honorary award, as did “Oppenheimer” director Christopher Nolan (54).
