All the fame wasn’t fulfilling for Elton John. He had to meet his husband and have his children to be happy.
As part of the US premiere of the new documentary “Elton John: Never Too Late”, the British superstar surprised his fans with an appearance at the New York Film Festival. On stage, Elton John (77) also talked about his life – and especially about what ultimately made him happy. Because it wasn’t all the glory.
At first, Elton John only focused on music
“There was always the music, in good times and bad,” John told , which also released one. He always relied on this. “Even in my darkest times, I still played music, recorded music, so I have to thank music for being the most incredible inspiration to me throughout my life.”
Especially when he first became successful, “that was wonderful. That’s all I wanted. I wanted people to love the songs, buy the records and come to the concerts. […] I got sober in 1990, and when that happened, I began to understand what was missing in my life: humility, gratitude and faith.” He had to build a foundation. “Yes, music was wonderful. Yes, fame was wonderful. But it didn’t fulfill me. Something was missing. And so I finally found complete happiness when I met David and had my children.”
John has been married to David Furnish (61) since 2014, who is responsible for the documentary alongside RJ Cutler (62). The megastar and Furnish have two sons together. The singer concluded by saying that he has “never been happier than he is now.” He is 77 years old and “has done everything there is to do.”
“Elton John: Never Too Late” will be available on the Disney+ streaming service from December 13th.
