Princess Kate’s cancer diagnosis shocked the world. She has now finished her chemotherapy – and now showed up at a special appointment.
At the beginning of September, Princess Kate announced in a very personal video that she had finished her chemotherapy. Prince William’s wife was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. The 42-year-old then withdrew to concentrate fully on her recovery. Individual appearances such as at the birthday parade for King Charles III. or the men’s final at Wimbledon remained the exception. In her most recent message, Kate revealed that she was looking forward to returning to work and increasing public engagements in the coming months.

Now the Princess of Wales appeared at an appointment at Windsor Castle – even if for Kate it was more of a private matter than a royal obligation. The 42-year-old and her husband William welcomed 16-year-old Brit Liz Hatton with her family. The teenager, from Harrogate, North Yorkshire, was diagnosed with a particularly rare and aggressive form of cancer, a so-called desmoplastic round cell tumour, in January this year. Doctors give Hatton a maximum of three years to live. Liz Hatton has been a passionate amateur photographer since she was twelve years old. After her cancer diagnosis, she created a bucket list of things she would like to see and shared it.
Prince William, who is a patron of London’s Air Ambulance Charity, heard about Hatton’s project and invited her to photograph an award ceremony at Windsor Castle. Among other things, the 16-year-old took photos of professional cyclist Mark Cavendish being knighted. After the official part of the ceremony there was a private meeting with William and Kate.
The heir to the throne couple published several photos on their official Instagram account, which, among other things, show a warm embrace between Kate and Liz Hatton. “It was a pleasure meeting Liz in Windsor today. A talented young photographer whose creativity and strength has inspired us both. Thank you for sharing your photos and story with us. W&C,” the comment on the post read . Liz Hatton also shared the footage on her Instagram account and wrote: “They are such lovely, authentic and friendly people. I am overjoyed that my family and I had this experience.”
Despite her cancer diagnosis, Princess Kate had repeatedly emphasized how important it was to her to think about other sufferers. In her video message in early September, she said: “To everyone continuing their own cancer journey – I stand with you, side by side, hand in hand. Out of darkness can come light, so let that light shine brightly.” She was able to put a smile on 16-year-old Liz’s face, at least for a brief moment.
