”The people are going to choose and if they have good information, they will always choose for the better. We cannot allow the people to vote uninformed“, expressed the president to the press after voting at the Doutor João Firmino Correia school in Araújo.

Lula maintained the tradition of voting in São Bernardo do Campo, from where he led as a union leader the historic demonstrations against the military dictatorship (1964-1985), a key period for his political formation, which culminated in 1980 with the founding of the Workers Party (PT).

One of the great objectives of Lula’s PT is precisely to recover the lost political hegemony in the municipalities that make up the industrial belt of São Paulo, among which is São Bernardo do Campo.
”I hope that the result will be beneficial for millions of Brazilians, who do not need to be governed, they need to be cared for, take care of children, women, the elderly, and take care of education, health and well-being,” he indicated.
For his part, the progressive Guilherme Boulosa candidate supported by Lula, called to “defeat violent extremism at the polls” after casting his vote.
After casting the vote at a school in the Campo Limpo neighborhood, Boulosleader of the Homeless Movement, said that the elections “were marked by lies and hatred” spread by far-right candidates.
“The challenge we have is to defeat violent extremism, lies, hatred, and make the truth prevail. “That is at stake at the polls today,” he said.
Boulos also stated that, for the first time, the largest city in Brazil “has the opportunity” to have a mayor who lives in the periphery and who champions a “project of hope” that “looks at the forgotten people” and who defends a “ “more humane and fair city.”
Nearly 156 million Brazilians are called to the polls to elect mayors and councilors of 5,569 citiesin an event that is shaping up to be a new duel between the progressivism led by Lula and the extreme right championed by the former president. Jair Bolsonaro.
The appointment will also serve as a thermometer of Lula’s popularity ahead of the 2026 presidential elections, when the PT leader is close to completing half of the four years of his mandate.
