Vera Int-Veen: TV star looks after friend with cancer

Moderator Vera Int-Veen describes Andrea Plewig as a soul mate. It goes without saying that she supports them even in difficult times.

They cry and suffer together: Vera Int-Veen (57) is a great support to her best friend Andrea Plewig (54) after her breast cancer diagnosis. She even shaved her head after the first hair fell out as a result of chemotherapy.

“I was paralyzed”

In August, Astro TV presenter Plewig was diagnosed with breast cancer. Shortly afterwards, she and Int-Veen made this public in a video in front of the clinic. Speaking out about the outrageous thing helped, the 57-year-old told the magazine “Bunte”. “We knew that therapy would start straight away, and that tore us apart. It was all in my head and I tried to classify it, but you only understand it later. I was paralyzed.” And of course she suffers with her friend. She is even “actually more emotional than she who is affected”. Vera Int-Veen reveals that she is definitely afraid for her long-time confidant. “But I have great confidence in Andrea and her doctors.” Both women are convinced that everything will be okay again. That’s not sugarcoating, “but rather the probability.”

Plewig has now started the third cycle of her chemotherapy. The 54-year-old reports in the double interview that she is currently “very sensitive and touched” by the treatments. Sometimes she has to cry “just like that”. Vera Int-Veen has also shed a few tears in the past few weeks. “I’ve had to cry a lot for Andrea a few times. And Andrea has kindly cried along in these situations.” A particularly emotional moment was the shearing of Plewig’s hair, which fell out in clumps ten days after the first chemo. She was very vain and always attached great importance to her hair. But then she decided to have herself shaved bald in the company of several of Vera Int-Veen’s friends.

With courage and cheerfulness

At first she hesitated and asked herself whether it was the right way to carry out such clear-cutting in front of other people. However, Int-Veen now thinks it was “just right and beautiful”. “We all shed a few tears.” Plewig now shows herself confidently with her bald head – or sometimes fools around with different wigs with her best friend.

Vera Int-Veen confirms that Plewig mastered the illness with courage and “a big pinch of cheerfulness.” The friends will certainly get through the next steps together: “The tumor became a little smaller during the last ultrasound examination,” said Andrea Plewig. “I have to go through four rounds of chemotherapy. It will soon be decided whether I will have breast-conserving surgery or whether the breast will be amputated.” It is “great luck” that they have their friend by their side. So many people are affected by cancer: “I would wish everyone to have such a wonderful woman like Vera in their lives.”
