Richard Gere: Wants to build his own world in Spain

US actor Richard Gere explained in an interview why his wife in particular wanted to move back to their Spanish homeland.

Richard Gere (75) and his wife Alejandra Silvia (41), who is 33 years his junior, were hugging each other during a recent visit to the Zurich Film Festival. The Hollywood star now explains about the appearance that he hadn’t seen his wife for a while and raves about the Spanish PR consultant: “I was really relieved to have her gentleness, generosity and love around me again.”

About their life together in Madrid, the actor explained: “I moved to Spain primarily for my wife.” She spent many years with him in New York, but always missed her family, friends, culture and language. “She wanted to be close to her loved ones and also wanted to spend at least a few years in Spain because of our children. They are growing up bilingual.”

Richard Gere: “I love your family”

The political situation in the USA also played a role in the decision to move, “especially for my wife,” explains Gere. “She’s appalled by a lot of things in America. Our health care is virtually non-existent, aside from the fact that a lot of people can’t afford it at all.” In Spain, on the other hand, there is a very good health system. “My wife is just as horrified by the gun violence and the violence in America’s schools,” the actor continues. “She actually wants our children to go to school there. She loves the United States, but she wanted to leave the country for so many reasons.” The thought that her children could be in danger on the way to school shocked her. “Me too, of course, but even more so when I saw the situation through her eyes,” says Gere.

He himself will still have to get used to his life in Spain. “I know some people there, but I don’t have a circle of friends that I consider my home, that will change over time,” explains the actor. Together they have some very good friends and people there “that I really love. I love their family and I’m looking forward to building my own world there.”

The couple tied the knot in a private ceremony in 2018. Her two sons, who are now five and four years old, made the family happiness perfect. The “Pretty Woman” star has previously had prominent women by his side. From 1991 to 1995 he was married to supermodel Cindy Crawford (58). Her second marriage was to actress Carey Lowell (63) from 2002 to 2016. With her he has another son named Homer (24).
