The Bahía Energía Group of the Bojanich family, through his company Biosanfe, announced an investment of US$200 million for the installation of Argentina’s first Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and bioethanol plant in Bahía Blanca.

The mayor of Bahía Blanca, Federico Susbielles, together with the CEO of Grupo Bahía Energía, Juan Manuel Ritacco, made the announcement in a press conference, in which they assured that the plant will be the first in Argentina to produce sustainable aviation fuel.

The 228-hectare property, which is already under construction, is located at kilometer 676 of National Route 3 and will have three stages of construction over the next five years.s. During the first stage, ethanol will be produced, with an initial volume of 150,000 cubic meters intended for domestic consumption, and in a second stage another module of 150,000 tons will be produced to produce sustainable aviation fuel.

“It is an ethanol plant but it has a lot of production of other byproducts. We are in Bahía Blanca because we are Bahia residents, but not because we are capricious, but because we have managed to achieve enough consensus to develop a more comprehensive project that is not only a plant but is an ecosystem,” said Ritacco.

The plant – as announced – will produce more than 300,000 cubic meters of bioethanol and more than 200,000 tons of dry corn husk for animal feed. The project includes the generation of up to 600 jobs for its construction and 180 direct qualified jobs.

The Bahía Energía Group, made up of Juan Carlos Bojanich and his three sons, control the biodiesel manufacturing companies Biobahía SA, Bio Ramallo SA, Biobin SA, Biocorbas SA, Colalao del Valle, Refinabio SA, Diferoil SA and Biobal ​​Energy SA. Between the eight last August – latest official data available – they concentrated 35% of the assigned biodiesel quota.

The Bahia group also has business units in agriculture through the companies El Sostén, La Vial, Punto Ribo, Las Jotas and Binmaq. It also operates the agro-industrial companies La Nueva Sirena, Molino Cerri and Harinas Bajo Hondo.

Meanwhile, the company explained that The investment in its first stage is able to apply to the Large Investment Incentive Regime (RIGI), and in this strategy credits are being managed at a local and international level, in collaboration with the Bahía Blanca Stock Exchange.

SAF is the new generation of fuels of the energy transition that reduces CO2 emissions from air transport by 75% or more compared to fossil fuel, and also reduces other harmful emissions such as particles and sulfur. This fuel is produced through certified processes that ensure its safe use in airplanes and airports, and can be mixed with conventional airplane fuel or used in its entirety without the need to change engines.
