US model Sofia Richie, youngest daughter of singer Lionel Richie, said she suffered from premature labor before the birth of her first child. “At 32 weeks I woke up and was like, ‘Hey, I woke up and I’m really tired today. My back really hurts. “I feel a bit crampy,” the 26-year-old reported on the “She MD” podcast. The doctor then discovered that she was already in labor. “I was really scared.”
She had to spend six nights in the hospital and another six weeks in bed at home in contractions, Richie said. The birth was finally induced in the 38th week. A few days later, Nicole Richie’s sister remembers that it swelled up “like a balloon.” As her gynecologist notes in the podcast, Richie suffered from postpartum preeclampsia. In this rare disease, the mother’s blood pressure rises dangerously after birth. She then had to go to the hospital again for 24 hours.
The model, whose father Lionel Richie (75) became world famous with songs like “Hello” and “All Night Long”, became a mother for the first time last May. She and British music entrepreneur Elliot Grainge married in April 2023.
