Liam Payne, the former singer of the British band One Direction, is dead. The 31-year-old died in the Argentine city of Buenos Aires when he fell from a third-floor hotel balcony, according to reports. The tragic news was confirmed by the local police authorities.
The circumstances of the fatal fall have not yet been clearly clarified. According to reports, an emergency call was received by the police on Wednesday afternoon (local time). The officers were called because a man was behaving aggressively in the hotel and was possibly under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, it is said. However, it has not been confirmed that this could have been Payne.
A little later, however, another emergency call was received saying that a man was lying in the hotel’s courtyard. The paramedics arrived at the scene at around 5 p.m. local time, but could only determine death. quoted a member of the rescue team as saying: “We later learned that he had been a famous singer. Unfortunately, the injuries he sustained from the fall proved fatal. There was no way to revive him.”
Immediately after the tragedy, numerous Payne fans gathered in front of the hotel complex, lit candles and laid flowers.
He had been in Argentina for a long time
Liam Payne had been in Argentina for some time before his death, as pictures on social networks showed. At the beginning of the month he attended a concert by his former bandmate Niall Horan (31).
The band One Direction was founded in 2010 as part of the talent show “The X Factor” and celebrated international success. Although the band never officially broke up, they have been inactive since 2016. The (former) members, including Harry Styles (30), have since released their own solo projects.
