Luca Guadagnino will direct the new “American Psycho” movie

Luca Guadagnino is in final negotiations for a new interpretation of the book “American Psycho” of Bret Easton Ellis for Lionsgate.

The film, which has a script by Scott Z. Burnswill not be a remake of the 2000 film, but a new adaptation of Ellis’ novel.

The original film adaptation starring Christian Bale was adapted by the director Mary Harron from a script by Harron and Guinevere Turner.

The Lionsgate film will be produced by Frenesy Films, and will be executive produced by Sam Pressman, son of Edward R. Pressman, producer of the first adaptation, through his company Pressman Film.

“We are thrilled to add another elite filmmaker to our upcoming slate of films,” said Adam Fogelson, president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. “Luca is a brilliant artist and the perfect visionary to create a completely new interpretation of this powerful and classic intellectual property”.

Guadagnino’s last film, Challengersstarring Zendaya, Mike Faist and Josh O’Connorpremiered at number one at the box office. His next movie, queerstarring Daniel Craig and Drew Starkeywill be released by A24 on November 27 in US theaters.

The director is currently in post-production on After the Huntstarring Julia Roberts. His previous credits include I Am Love, Suspiria, Bones and All, A Bigger Splash and Call Me by Your Name.
