The regulator INDECOPI said in a statement that the parent company of TikTok, the Chinese company ByteDance, opposed the registration of the trademark, alleging that this could harm the prestige of the social network, of at least 1.5 billion users over 18 years of age according to data from specialized sources.


“Although both brands share phonetic similarities, there is no risk of confusion between them due to the difference between the products they represent,” the regulator said in a final decision granting registration of the Peruvian trademark.
