Jack Nicholson’s son Ray
Manic grin in the second generation

We haven’t been able to see Jack Nicholson’s smile on screen for 14 years. Another Nicholson can help: son Ray.
Whether in Tim Burton’s (66) “Batman”, Stanley Kubrick’s (1928-1999) “Shining” or Miloš Forman’s (1932-2018) “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”: When Jack Nicholson (87) treats his co-stars with sleepwalking ease He usually does so with a broad, sometimes manic grin. However, we haven’t seen this iconic smile on the screen for a long time: Nicholson’s last role to date and most likely his final role was in the romantic comedy “How Do You Know It’s Love” in 2010.
After a 14-year forced break, horror fans can still marvel at a worthy Nicholson grin: Jack Nicholson’s son Ray (32) can be seen in the film “Smile 2”, which opened in German cinemas on October 17th. Anyone who steers clear of scary films will probably have spotted the young star unknowingly – his ghostly visage adorns various advertising posters and teaser images for “Smile 2”. The question that many film fans are likely to increasingly ask themselves: Does the son also have the potential to permanently fill the oversized shoes of his world-famous father?
Early start and long break
Ray Nicholson was born on February 20, 1992. He is the son of Jack Nicholson and Rebecca Broussard (61), who was with the three-time Oscar winner from 1989 to 1994. In contrast to her ex-partner, Broussard was not granted a major Hollywood career – her short film resume includes roles such as “Nakatomi Hostage No. 3” in “Die Hard” and “Hooker No. 2” in “Mars Attacks!”.
Ray Nicholson’s career in the dream factory began early but unspectacularly: in the sports comedy “The Benchwarmers” from 2006, he celebrated his premiere as a teenager in a small role, after which there was a twelve-year break from broadcasting. It wasn’t until 2018, when he was in his mid-20s, that he landed his next part – in the little-known Netflix action thriller “The Outsider” with Jared Leto (52) in the lead role.
His roles remained small, but his co-stars became even bigger. He already appeared alongside Sir Anthony Hopkins (86) in “Where Are You”, which was released in 2019, and the following year he was seen in the much-considered drama “Promising Young Woman” with Carey Mulligan (39). As a greasy man in a suit who would make fun of women who were supposedly drunk and would also like to make fun of them, his potential for shady characters had already briefly flashed through.
Career boost during Corona
Ray Nicholson had his most productive phase to date in the Corona years of all times: in Paul Thomas Anderson’s (54) “Licorice Pizza” he was part of an ensemble cast with (among others) Bradley Cooper (49), Sean Penn (64) and Tom Waits (74). Also in 2021, he had his first ongoing role thanks to the Amazon series “Panic”. He appeared in all ten episodes of the teen series – which was canceled after only one season.
In 2022 the time had finally come: in the thriller “Out of the Blue” Ray Nicholson was allowed to read his name among the main actors for the first time. What’s more: In the crime thriller he immediately had a murderous affair with Diane Kruger (48) as a femme fatale. With “Christmas Presents from Tiffany” (2022), “Gonzo Girl” (2023), “I Love You Forever” (2024) and now “Smile 2” his career is complete so far.
Ray Nicholson may not yet be able to match his father’s versatility and Oscar appeal – who does? However, his previous engagements already show that he doesn’t want to be pinned down to one genre either. He will soon have the opportunity to prove this again: in the already finished “Borderline” with Samara Weaving (32) and Eric Dane (51), he mutates into a crazy stalker who has his sights on a famous pop star. Nasty, innate grin certainly included.
