Collectives: the UTA reached a joint agreement and lifted the strike on Thursday

The Automotive Tram Union (UTA) met with authorities from the Ministry of Transportation, reached a salary agreement and there will be no forceful measure this Thursday.

After a meeting with authorities from the Ministry of Labor, the Automotive Tram Union (UTA) reached a salary agreement, announced that The 24-hour strike scheduled for this Thursday, October 31, was lifted and buses will circulate normally throughout the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA).

The measure of force had been announced outside the strike this Wednesday the Argentine Confederation of Transport Workers (CATT)which includes all public transport – trains, ships, planes and subways – and cargo service.

The authorities of the Secretary of Labor held a virtual meeting with representatives of the union led by Roberto Fernandez and also with the chambers that bring together the companies that operate the service. In the absence of the portfolio holder due to travel, the meeting was headed by the Undersecretary of Labor Relations, Martin Huidobro.

On the part of the business sector, members of the Argentine Association of Automotive Transport Entrepreneurs (AAETA), the Passenger Motor Transport Business Chamber (CEAP), the Chamber of Transportation of the Province of Buenos Aires (CTPBA) and the Chamber of United Businessmen of Urban Passenger Transportation of Buenos Aires (CEUTUPBA).

New salary scale for UTA workers

After reaching an agreement with the national and business authorities, UTA workers will earn a floor of 1,140,000 in November, 1,160,000 in December and 1,200,000 in January.

What was the UTA’s claim?

The UTA had a mandatory conciliation in force issued by the Secretary of Labor which prevented him from carrying out force measures until Tuesday the 29th, so legally he could have joined the strike in the rest of the transportation branches.

ON Monday the union held a meeting with the chambers of the sector but they did not reach an agreement. The agreement only reached this Wednesday, hours before the start of the force measure announced for tomorrow.

The UTA had requested a basic salary for August $1,160,000, with progressive increases until reaching $1,322,136 in December.

According to the union, the transport companies did not make any offers during this Monday’s meeting.
