“I made mistakes”: Former goalkeeper Jens Lehmann regrets driving under the influence of alcohol – and at the same time defends himself against speculation.
Former national goalkeeper Jens Lehmann has spoken out for the first time about driving under the influence of alcohol – and says he regrets the incident very much. “It really wasn’t a good thing on my part. I regret that too, but I misjudged myself,” said Lehmann on the Welt news channel.
Several media outlets reported in September that Lehmann was stopped by the police while under the influence of alcohol. Lehmann had not yet commented on this. Now he said he drove “two hours after the event” and had a blood alcohol level of 0.7. “That means your driver’s license is revoked for four weeks, which is right,” said the 54-year-old.
However, Lehmann defends himself against reports that he was “totally drunk”. This was “not the case at all”. “The truth was that I made a mistake because I thought I could drive.”
