November 6: why Banking Day is commemorated

The day celebrates and remembers the formation of a historic and strong union for workers in the sector.

Each Banking Day is celebrated on November 6 in Argentina. The date is in commemoration of the birth of the Banking Association, a union that protects all workers of the union, born in 1924. At that time, the working day was extended by 12 hours, the main reason why the workers organized of the sector.

On April 12, 1919, 3500 employees held an assembly from which the association emergedlasted until July of that year and was the first time that a union movement marked a milestone in the country. 5 years later, on November 6, the Banking Association (AB), better known as “La Bancaria”, was formed.

November 6: Are the banks open?

On Wednesday, November 6, to celebrate this day, all banks will remain closedfor which there will be no banking, financial and stock market activity. Operations can only be carried out through ATMs or home banking. For everything else, users will have to wait until the next business day, Thursday the 7th.

In addition, the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA) reported that the clearinghouses will not operate. Therefore, those operations that expire on Wednesday, November 6, will be settled on Thursday, November 7. Digital media will be enabled (Home Banking, applications, cards and virtual wallets).
