Barack and Michelle Obama are calling on US citizens to vote – and to vote for Kamala Harris.
On election day in the USA, the two presidential candidates Donald Trump (78) and Kamala Harris (60) are fighting for every single vote. Former US President Barack Obama (63) and his first lady Michelle Obama (60) also made urgent appeals to people to go vote. With certain words, both make it clear how close the race between former President Trump and Vice President Harris could be.
“We owe it to our children”
“Folks, this election is going to be very close,” Barack Obama said in a statement, among other things. “In some states, just a handful of votes in each district could decide the winner, so you have to go out and vote. […] Vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.”
Michelle Obama also calls for people to vote for Harris. To one: “Today is the last day for us to do anything to get Kamala Harris elected!” And further: “We have so much to lose if we don’t get this done – and we have so much to gain if we do. We owe it to our children to reject a politics of division and fear and a message of hope and embrace inclusion. […] So let us do all we can in these final hours. Vote like your life depends on it.”
Numerous US celebrities – including superstars such as Taylor Swift (34), Lady Gaga (38) and Beyoncé (43) – spoke out in favor of Kamala Harris before the election. In September she said she would choose Harris and running mate Walz. At Trump’s side are, among others, the entrepreneur Elon Musk (53) and the podcaster Joe Rogan (57).
