Heidi Klum made a fiery appearance at the fourth annual Earthshot Prize awards ceremony.
Princess Kate (42) is doing “really well,” Prince William (42) recently assured. But she couldn’t accompany him this evening: the Earthshot Prize Environmental Award was presented in Cape Town on November 6th. High-profile guests were invited. Among them was “Germany’s Next Top Model” boss Heidi Klum (51), who jetted straight to South Africa after her headline-grabbing Halloween party in New York.
The environmental award ceremony crowned the winners from nearly 2,500 nominees in 75 countries in a reusable eco-dome. Among the prominent guests who walked the green carpet was not only the creator of the environmental award, the Prince of Wales, but also host Billy Porter (55), actress Nina Dobrev (35, known from “Vampire Diaries”) and top models like Winnie Harlow (30) and Heidi Klum.
The latter almost stole the show with her surprise appearance from the heir to the throne, who appeared in a gray checkered jacket, navy blue trousers and white sneakers in a red one-shoulder cocktail dress.
Hannah Jones, CEO of the Earthshot Prize, drew attention back to the purpose of the event: “We are very excited to be here in Africa. What matters is reaching young people around the world.”
“You just try to do what you can”
Prince William also announced on X, formerly Twitter. In one video you can see him rehearsing his speech on stage and discussing it with employees. He told BBC and Sky News how he privately prepared for the event.
Like so many, he and his family are having conversations about how they can help protect the climate at home: “Every family is trying to do everything they can to help the environment. We go over all the basics of recycling and make sure that we minimize water consumption and turn off the lights when we leave the house and so on,” he listed. “And we make sure that what we do in the environment makes sense. I think every family has those conversations. You just try to do what you can.”
This year’s Earthshot Prize will see five winners from around the world each receive £1 million in prize money for their innovative solutions to global environmental and climate change challenges. The event was broadcast live across Africa and later on BBC.
