CABA leads the first strategic city management index carried out by the UBA

Strategic City Management Index: what it is and how it is measured

The index is prepared from the study of the 10 most important urban conglomerates in the countryand is in the hands of the Smart Cities Centerwhich depends on the FCE. It focused throughout 2024 on the strategic development of these cities.

The record evidences in a scale from 0 to 5the result of a deep five dimension analysis: a political and institutionalanother linked to economic developmentanother to technology and infrastructureand the remaining two to environment already society respectively.

Specifically, each dimension is subdivided into 31 characteristics which represents the priority focuses, and in turn, these variables They open at 159 indicators further. The precise data of all this allows the realization of a both qualitative and quantitative analysis of each urban center.

The results of the study

In the five dimensions mentioned, it is the City of Buenos Aires the one that maintains first place. But among the other cities, positions vary according to the dimension.

Omar Quiroga, head of the Smart Cities Centerexplained that “the objective of this work is to establish, both quantitatively and qualitatively, a diagnosis of each of the cities studied, to understand their strengths and weaknesses.”

“In this way it will be possible to obtain a diagnosis that allows elaboration in the futureinnovative public policy strategies or rethinking those that are being implemented, in order to facilitate harmonious and sustainable development,” he added.

However, the official explained that “the main objective is to build an indicator powerful enough to allow establish a starting point to measure urban sustainability“.

“It is essential to know this in order to face different challenges for the future in order to improve the quality of life of citizens,” he concluded.
