Cora Schumacher has reported back after several months of radio silence and made it public that she is in therapy.
After around four weeks of radio silence, Cora Schumacher (47) returned with a long statement on Instagram. After a public mud fight with ex-husband Ralf after his coming out in July of this year, she went into hiding. She now explained that she has sought professional therapeutic help and is being treated in a day clinic.
“I want to be honest with you”
“The events of the last few weeks and months have been very intense, have demanded a lot of strength from me and have opened up many old wounds and traumas caused by current events and the repeated media smear campaigns,” . As a result, she realized “that I can no longer cope with everything that has come up again on my own. For this reason, I sought therapeutic help and am currently in a day clinic.”
Only now, after a few weeks of therapy, did she have the strength to come forward again. “I want to be honest with you: it was a long road to get to the point where I am now,” admits Schumacher. She was particularly affected by the “numerous false statements of fact and hostility on the Internet” and “the many messages and comments that suggested I delete myself or even end my life.” “Even though I’ve never had suicidal thoughts, it does something to you when words like that are thrown at you repeatedly,” she writes.
Schumacher is alluding to the public War of the Roses with ex-husband Ralf Schumacher. He celebrated his coming out with his partner Étienne in July, and both of them then published private chat histories and made accusations about each other. In her current statement, Cora Schumacher also addresses the separation from Ralf Schumacher ten years ago. She had already suffered a nervous breakdown in 2014, at the time of their separation, and still has to process “the experiences during the separation and the subsequent divorce” to this day.
Separation from Ralf Schumacher led to “nervous breakdown”
“At the end of my marriage, I found out that RS had already had sexual contact with men during our marriage,” Schumacher claims. This realization led to the aforementioned nervous breakdown. “Every time I confronted him with this information or asked him about this topic or sought contact with my child during the separation period, arguments broke out.”
She was repeatedly told that she was mentally ill and urgently needed professional help. “Yes, I had and have mental problems. That’s right,” admits Schumacher. “I would like to emphasize that I have never thought for a second about ending my life – neither in 2014 nor today.” Her mental problems have “a clear cause,” said Schumacher.
Emotional words about son David
Son David (22), whom she shares with ex-husband Ralf and with whom she is said to have no contact, also made serious accusations against his mother at the beginning of October. In an Instagram story he wrote, among other things: “Unfortunately, my mother has had mental problems for as long as I can remember.” He even spoke of an alleged suicide attempt.
Cora Schumacher now admits: “Yes, he knows me as a mother who also faced mental challenges in her life. I always did my best, tried to protect him from my problems and my feelings – like every mother does would do for her child.” But she “never thought for a second” about ending her life.
“I’m in very good hands here”
Finally, Cora Schumacher turns to her followers: “Please don’t worry, I’m in very good hands here.” She is optimistic: “It was definitely the right decision to take this path – to finally experience understanding and healing .” In therapy she found a “protected space that supports me.”
