November 9th marks the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. You were a leading player in the freedom revolution of 1989. Which moment remains unforgettable?
At that time, the Berlin Gethsemane church community allowed us to set up a contact telephone for the opposition groups, because only a few had a telephone at home. While security forces surrounded the church outside in October 1989, people called us and reported that peaceful demonstrators and bystanders had been arrested or beaten by the state. We were very worried when the people of Leipzig demonstrated on October 9th like every Monday.
