His stars walk the red carpet at the premiere of “Wicked,” while director Jon M. Chu becomes a father.
What sounds like the story of a Hollywood comedy has now really happened. While the musical adaptation “Wicked” celebrated its premiere in Los Angeles, the film’s director became a father. The stars, including Ariana Grande (31) and Cynthia Erivo (37), celebrated without Jon M. Chu (45), who was in the hospital with his wife Kristin Hodge. It is the fifth child for Chu and his partner, to whom he has been married since 2018.
“Magic is in the air”
“I can’t believe this happened while the movie is premiering,” writes Chu, showing off his baby daughter. “Magic is in the air.” He wishes the others a happy premiere day and turns directly to the girl: “Welcome to our world, you’ll do great. You have a lot of witches on your side.”
Loud, however, in some ways, Chu was still with his stars. During the premiere, a video message from the director from the hospital was shown. He was sorry that he couldn’t be there. Chu has “waited three years for this moment to share a film with you, but I’ve waited my whole life for this moment to have a fifth child.”
He had previously written in his stories that he could not take part in the event. There was a “change of plans” around 4:00 a.m. It’s a day “I’ve dreamed of for a long time. Two babies (a movie and a little girl) at once and I really couldn’t be happier.”
Erivo and Grande star in Wicked. The first chapter is scheduled to hit German cinemas on December 12th. A second part is planned for the 2025 Christmas season.
