The British filmmaker told the industry publication Deadline that he had a tumor removed two years ago. He appeals to other men.
Director Steve McQueen (55) has been treated for prostate cancer. Thanks to the early diagnosis, he is completely healthy again, said the filmmaker (“12 Years A Slave”, “Widows”), according to the British news agency PA in London. “My treatment was a complete success, which is why I think it is absolutely necessary for every man to get tested.”
If his father hadn’t died of prostate cancer, he probably wouldn’t have had himself proactively examined for years, McQueen said at an event organized by the organization Prostate Cancer Research in the London Parliament.
According to the industry portal “Deadline”, a small tumor was discovered during an examination in 2022. At that time, he was quoted as saying that he had postponed the shooting of his new film “Blitz” by two weeks because of the procedure.
