After announcing his cancer, James Van Der Beek appeared on the red carpet for the first time.

James Van Der Beek (47) made his cancer diagnosis public at the beginning of November. A few days later, on November 14th, the actor appeared on the red carpet for the first time: for the premiere of the film “Sidelined the QB and Me”, Van Der Beek posed in a brown suit with a checked pattern, which he paired with a mustard yellow one Combined top. It was Van Der Beek’s first public appearance since he made his colon cancer diagnosis public.

That’s why he went public

Van Der Beek announced that he had colon cancer. “I have dealt with this diagnosis privately and taken steps to resolve it with the support of my incredible family. There is reason for optimism and I feel good,” the “Dawson’s Creek” star told US -Magazine.

Shortly after publication, however, it emerged that Van Der Beek wanted to share the diagnosis with the public, but at a different time. “There is no script for announcing these things, but I had planned to speak at length with People magazine soon…To raise awareness and tell my story in my own way,” he wrote 47-year-old in a video clip on Instagram. However, Van Der Beek learned that “a tabloid would cover the news,” which is why he preferred the interview.

As a result, relatives and close friends only found out about Van Der Beek’s diagnosis from the press, which he was very sorry about. “I apologize to all the people in my life that I wanted to tell myself. None of this process happened in the time frame I preferred…” the actor continued.
