Conan O’Brien is the new Oscar host. The comedian and former late-night host will host the awards in March.

Conan O’Brien (61) will host the 97th Academy Awards next March! As the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on its official Instagram account, O’Brien will be Jimmy Kimmel’s (57) successor. The US talker had presented the world’s most important film awards over the past two years. “Conan O’Brien is officially the host of the 97th Academy Awards!” it says under the video, in which the comedian proudly holds a golden boy.

He is hosting the Oscars for the first time

In the comments, many social media users commented positively on the evening’s new host. “Then I’ll have to watch the Oscars this year!”, announces a user under the post. “I haven’t seen the Oscars in years, but when Conan is hosting I can’t miss it!” says another.

“With his brilliant humor, love of films and live television expertise, he is the perfect person to lead our global film celebration,” said a joint statement from Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang (68). “His remarkable ability to connect with audiences will bring viewers together to do what the Oscars do best – honor this year’s spectacular films and filmmakers.”

O’Brien himself also got in touch. “America has been asking for this and now it’s happening: Taco Bell’s new Cheesy Chalupa Supreme. Plus, I’m hosting the Oscars,” he writes on a repost from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

He made talk show history

Conan O’Brien began his career as a sketch writer for the legendary comedy show “Saturday Night Live” and a producer for the series “The Simpsons”. In 1993 he appeared for the first time as the new host of the “Late Night Show”. Despite initially poor ratings, “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” quickly established itself in the entertainment industry. In the decades that followed, O’Brien hosted several talk shows until he finally gave it up in 2021. He also stood in front of the camera for the US broadcaster TBS for eleven years and hosted the Emmy Awards in 2003 and 2006.
