Queen Silvia has contracted a severe respiratory infection. She therefore does not accompany her husband King Carl Gustaf on a state visit to Asia – out of consideration for her hosts.
Sweden’s Queen Silvia is ill and therefore cannot take part in a planned state visit to Singapore. The 80-year-old has caught a severe respiratory infection, as the Swedish royal family announced.
Her husband King Carl XVI. Gustaf will therefore travel to the Asian city state without her this week. Silvia was looking forward to the trip, but decided to stay in Sweden out of consideration for her hosts and the accompanying delegation. She doesn’t want to take the risk of infecting others.
Silvia, who comes from Heidelberg, has been the woman at the side of Carl Gustaf, who has been Swedish head of state since 1973, for almost half a century. With the state visit to Singapore, the Swedes want to strengthen their relations with the island state in Southeast Asia. The King will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard and a business delegation, among others.
