Prince’s sister Tyka Nelson died at just 64 years old. Her death certificate now provides information about the singer’s cause of death.
The cause of death of Tyka Nelson (1960-2024) has been determined. About two weeks ago it was announced that the sister of music legend Prince (1958-2016) had died. The reason for her death was unclear at the time – until now: Nelson’s death certificate, the , lists cardiac arrest as the primary cause of death. The singer is said to have suffered this about 45 minutes before her death. Heart failure is also given as a secondary reason. According to the media report, Nelson had been struggling with heart problems for years. Her death certificate also listed “substance abuse” as a contributing cause to her death. What this was about is not mentioned.
She died eight years after her brother
Nelson’s son President confirmed her death in early November. A little later, her cousin Charles “Chazz” Smith spoke up. “Our family is deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of my cousin Tyka Evene Nelson, who passed away this morning,” he wrote.
Nelson grew up in Minnesota with Prince and six half-siblings. Like her famous brother, Nelson also dedicated herself to music. She released four albums between 1988 and 2011. In June, Nelson had planned to give a farewell concert and then retire from the music business. However, she had to cancel due to health reasons. The musician died eight years after Prince, who also did not live to old age: the “Kiss” interpreter was only 57 years old.
