Today, hardly anyone asks whether he is related to the Fitz family of artists. He’s at the top professionally and – he has his own family.
Film star Florian David Fitz was born on November 20, 1974 in Munich. This Wednesday, the popular and successful actor, screenwriter and film director is celebrating his 50th birthday.
The artists’ families and the artist’s family
Florian Ingo Ulrich Fitz, his real name, which he rather reluctantly revealed a few years ago, comes from a family of hoteliers. He came up with David for good reason: “There’s an actor who’s been there ten years longer than me – and his name is Florian Fitz [57]”, he explained. Florian David Fitz is not related to the Frankfurt (Main) native and his late sister, actress Hendrikje Fitz (1961-2016).
The situation is different with the Munich artist family, whose famous last name he also bears. He is a second cousin of actor and musician Michael Fitz (66) and his cousin cabaret artist, actress and singer Lisa Fitz (73) – both of whom are nephew and niece of the popular actress Veronika Fitz (1936-2020).
Florian David Fitz has now also started a family of his own. What is known is that he is the father of twins who were born in January 2021. In an interview with spot on news in 2023, Fitz said how he has been able to reconcile his job and family since then: “As soon as there are children, a huge part of life that you had freely at your disposal falls away. And if you had this part before is already mainly filled with work, then the work is pushed aside and takes place elsewhere. This is also called the ‘traffic jam’ of life – for me it’s just a little later than for others. It’s a lot, but I console myself with the fact that it’s just a phase. And on the other hand, I want to take it all with me.
He keeps his two children out of the public eye, and from his private life he mainly shows entertaining things about himself in nature on Instagram. .
“Doctor’s Diary” – the starting signal for a steep career
Florian David Fitz has long since emerged from the shadow of the artist family. But first he was drawn far away from his Bavarian relatives. After graduating from high school, he studied music and acting in Boston and only returned to Germany after another year in New York, where he gained his first television and film experience in the 1990s. For “My Crazy Turkish Wedding” (2005) he was presented with the Adolf Grimme Prize on behalf of the cast. With the role of Dr. Marc Meier’s career really took off in the RTL series “Doctor’s Diary” (2008-2011).
The film comedy “Männerherzen” (2009) was followed by the award-winning tragicomedy “Vincent will Meer” (2010) about the young Vincent, who suffers from Tourette’s. Florian David Fitz wrote the script, played the title character and received many prizes and awards for it. With “Jesus loves me” (2012) he went one better: In addition to the script and the leading role, he also took on the direction.
This was followed by the “particularly valuable” (FBW) tragic road movie “Hin und weg” (2014), the “valuable” tragicomedy “Der geilste Tag” (2016) with Matthias Schweighöfer (43), the TV biopic “Kästner und der kleine Tuesday” (2016) or the very watchable zeitgeist comedy “Welcome to the Hartmanns” (2016) and a number of other films for which he wrote the script and in which he also played the leading roles.
With all this success, it’s no wonder that Florian David Fitz is a real guarantee of a good mood on every red carpet. And the next red carpet is approaching: On December 19th, after “The First Name” (2018), “The Last Name” (2022) will be in cinemas… Then his big birthday party will already be history.
50th birthday theme party
On the sidelines of the “BMW Opera for All” event, we revealed how his big birthday will be celebrated. The motto and venue had long been decided: “I love ‘bad taste parties’, and that’s why they always have to be in a really bad location,” he said.
The film star added that the place was so bad that he couldn’t actually name it. For everyone who loves guessing games: “A famous German film producer always had a taxi take him there and then didn’t like to leave during the evening,” is his tip about the location.
