Javier Milei’s government fired the head of the Air Force, Fernando Mengo

The Government fired the head of the Fernando Mengo Air Force. This was reported by the Ministry of Defense this Thursday, through an official statement published on the social network X (formerly Twitter). The minister Luis Petri He was the one who made the decision based on acts of “harassment and improper use of aircraft.”

According to the official, Mengo not only used aircraft for personal purposes, but is also reported for acts of harassment and/or abuse.

“This decision responds to facts that reveal the improper use of institution aircraft for private purposes, which implies a serious violation of the regulations that govern the management of public assets and the responsibilities inherent to his position,” explained the minister.

But it wasn’t just that. “I have become aware of alleged acts of harassment and/or abuse that would have been carried out by Brigadier Mengo, which constitutes a very serious and inadmissible offense,” Petri revealed.

For this reason, he announced that he has already instructed the initiation of legal and administrative actions to investigate the reported events, determine responsibilities and guarantee that those who have committed a crime “receive the sanctions that correspond to the seriousness of their actions.”

“I have decided to relieve Brigadier Fernando Mengo, Chief of the Air Force, from his position in compliance with the duty to guarantee transparency, ethics and respect for the law in the Armed Forces.

This decision responds to facts that reveal the improper use of the institution’s aircraft for private purposes, which implies a serious violation of the regulations that govern the management of public assets and the responsibilities inherent to their position.

Likewise, I have become aware of alleged acts of harassment and/or abuse that were carried out by Brigadier Mengo, which constitutes a very serious and inadmissible offense. I have instructed the initiation of all legal and administrative actions necessary to investigate these events, determine responsibilities and guarantee that those who have incurred them receive the sanctions that correspond to the seriousness of their actions.

In this Government, and under the management of President Javier Milei, there is and will be no tolerance for abuse of power, corruption or conduct that tarnishes the integrity of people or the trust of citizens in our institutions.

“This Ministry of Defense reaffirms its commitment to transparency, austerity, the protection of the rights of victims and unrestricted respect for the law as fundamental pillars of its management.”
