John Stamos wore a bald cap in solidarity with Dave Coulier, who was suffering from cancer. The fact that he received criticism for this “shocked” him.
With his action, John Stamos (61) just wanted to show solidarity for his “Full House” friend Dave Coulier (65). When the actor, who was suffering from lymphatic cancer, shaved his hair, Stamos put on a bald cap and the two posed for a selfie. “There’s nothing better than putting on a bald cap and using some Photoshop skills to show my brother some love and solidarity,” Stamos captioned the image on November 18. Stamos now responded to the criticism he received for the gesture.
“He wanted me to shave his head, I knew that beforehand, so I brought the bald cap with me from the studio,” says Stamos, who laughed a lot with Coulier about the action.
“I’m so shocked. First of all, I’m just embarrassed and they’re embarrassing,” says the actor about the haters who, among other things, accused him of not shaving his hair too. He further explains, “When I saw these reactions, I was like, ‘What?’ I couldn’t understand it. What they should do instead of making stupid little videos or writing comments – they should call their doctor and make an appointment. I think that’s the point of the whole thing.”
Normally he doesn’t care about what is written or said online, “but this really hurt me, especially because I didn’t understand it,” says the actor, who says he is starring in a new series and is due to was not allowed to cut off his hair due to his filming commitments.
“The point is, I’m ashamed of people for wasting their time on this, while I just wanted to cheer up a friend – I started saying ‘I’m sorry’, I’m not sorry.” The visit to his friend was “unbelievable,” says Stamos. “He cried, we laughed, we watched old movies, we told stories and I brought videos, and it was just a beautiful thing.”
Dave Coulier: “John knows how to cheer me up”
Dave Coulier had already commented on the negative comments. In a statement he clarified: “I’m a comedian and humor is what drives me. John knows how to cheer me up and I laughed out loud when he arrived wearing a bald cap.”
He has heard from many people “who have been so inspired by my words and actions that they say they will go to their doctors and get mammograms, a colonoscopy or a prostate exam. I will continue to laugh in the face of adversity.” His statement ended with: “I decided to spread the message of early cancer detection to help people. That’s just who I am. I wish nothing but love for you all.”
