With Peter Lindbergh, the fashion world lost one of the most influential photographers of the past decades. His last illustrated book is a homage to the fashion house Dior.
Peter Lindbergh died in September 2019 at the age of 74. His last illustrated book was published by Taschen Verlag, which is now available as an affordable and unlimited edition. For the book, Lindbergh photographed supermodels like Irina Shayk and Alek Wek on the streets of New York. All women wore couture designs by Dior, because the project is also a homage to 70 years of fashion history – from the early designs of Christian Dior to current models by Maria Grazia Chiuri.
Peter Lindbergh often photographed for Dior
Lindbergh was closely linked to the traditional French label. Over the course of his career, he realized numerous campaigns for Dior and photographed the house’s muses such as actresses Marion Cotillard and Charlize Theron.
“Haute couture is often associated with the idea of perfection down to the last detail. I just really wanted to confront 70 years of couture from the protected Dior Museum with life today, where things are toughest: “On the streets of New York, unexpected emotions often emerge against the backdrop of the greatest contrasts,” said Linbergh about the photo book.
Lindbergh already made history with an early commissioned work for the American “Vogue”. In the summer of 1988 he photographed Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Tatjana Patitz, Christy Turlington and Cindy Crawford. It was the first “Vogue” cover that Anna Wintour was responsible for as editor-in-chief and the birth of the supermodels of the nineties.
The illustrated book “Peter Lindbergh. Dior” is now available as a cheaper, unlimited edition in the available. The book has 504 pages and costs 25 euros.
