German series “Liebes Kind” wins International Emmy

It’s the best Monday ever, say the German Emmy winners. The production “Liebes Kind” was awarded the TV Prize in New York. Another hopeful came away empty-handed.

The thriller streaming series “Liebes Kind” wins an award at the 52nd International Emmys. In the “TV Film/Miniseries” category, the Netflix series produced by Constantin Film was awarded the coveted prize in New York. The six-part mixture of crime and family drama is about a woman who escaped from her torturous captivity and whose fate is connected to a 13-year-old, unsolved missing person case.

The leading authors and directors Isabel Kleefeld and Julian Pörksen, the producers Tom Spiess and Friederich Oetker as well as the leading actresses Kim Riedle and Haley Louise Jones traveled to Manhattan for the award. “Best Monday ever,” said Oetker when accepting the golden Emmy statue. “It has been the privilege and pleasure of a lifetime to work with this team.”

Spiess and Kleefeld told the German Press Agency: “We are overwhelmed. “Liebes Kind” was created with a lot of love, two children and a great cast and team. The prize belongs to all of us.”

Little Emmy sister with growing importance

The International Emmys are the global offshoot and little sister of the main Emmy awards. For the award, which focuses on non-US American productions, 56 productions from 21 nations are nominated in 14 categories.

The awards for non-American productions are very coveted, but do not have the same status as the US “Emmy Awards” awarded in Los Angeles. In the streaming age, however, the award has gained more weight. After all, non-American productions like “Squid Game” had recently achieved world fame. The German series “Dark” from 2017 also achieved international fame – just like the Spanish show “Money Heist”.

Among the other nominees was “Gong!” in the “Best Children’s Live Action” category, responsible for children’s television KiKA. The series is about the young autistic Eileen, who has to find her way around the social structure of her school as an adolescent – and makes friends despite all the difficulties. “Gong!” However, they had to admit defeat to the production “One of the Boys” from Denmark. Meanwhile, the Polish production “Pianoforte”, which was also supported by ZDF and Arte, won in the art productions category.

The main prize at the International Emmys, the drama series category, went to the show “Drops of God” from France. Last year the big prize went to “The Empress” from Germany.
