In the case of fuels, to the 1% tax increase announced we must add the 2% peso depreciation foreseen by the Government for December (“crawling peg”) and the increase in the price of a barrel of Brent (reference point for Argentina). In total, fuels will increase in December up to 3%.

The tax increase in fuels was published this Friday in the Bulletin Official, with the signatures of President Javier Milei, the Minister of Economy Luis Caputo and the Chief of Staff Guillermo Francos. According to the decree, they are “deferred remaining increases corresponding to the updates” of the last quarter of 2023 postponed by the then Frente de Todos government and the first quarter of this year.

These increases are added to the 3% for the rate of water in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA), announced by AySA, the state water company managed by the national government.

The update of rates is in line with the policy of reducing subsidies for public services carried out by the Government. So far this yearelectricity accumulated a rise of 189% and gas 564%according to data from the Observatory of rates and subsidies of the UBA and Conicet.
