Mariah Carey is already number one with “All I Want…”

Early Christmas spirit in Germany: Mariah Carey conquered number one with “All I Want For Christmas Is You” almost four weeks before Christmas. Linkin Park remain at the top when it comes to albums.

There she is at the top again – every year: Mariah Carey and her 30-year-old Christmas pop hit “All I Want For Christmas Is You” landed at number one in the Official German Single Charts in 2024 before the first Advent. This is what the chart investigators from GfK Entertainment in Baden-Baden say. Second place also goes to a Christmas classic: the 40-year-old song “Last Christmas” by Wham!. Carey was number eight last week and has now dethroned Linkin Park after eleven weeks at number one. Their hit “The Emptiness Machine” falls on the three.

Last year, Carey, who has regularly reached the top position around Christmas since 2019, only reached number one on December 8th with her song from 1994, the year before that was on December 2nd.

Mariah Carey is preparing to become number one queen

“All I Want For Christmas Is You” has now accumulated a total of 18 weeks at number one in Germany, four of which were in 2023. If Carey continues like this and manages four weeks again in 2024 or even more, then she will break the record set by “Komet” by Udo Lindenberg and Apache 207, who collected 21 number one weeks last year.

27 Christmas songs in the current top 100

“The pre-Christmas period has finally arrived in the single charts,” say the chart investigators. A total of 27 holiday songs are in the top 100.

Alongside Carey and Wham! These include, for example, Kelly Clarkson’s “Underneath The Tree” (eight), Ariana Grande’s “Santa Tell Me” (nine), Sia’s “Snowman” (ten) and “Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!” by Dean Martin (15).

Other Christmas hits in the single charts include “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” by Brenda Lee (19), “Wonderful Dream (Holidays Are Coming)” by Melanie Thornton (20), “Merry Christmas” by Ed Sheeran & Elton John ( 36), “Wonderful Christmastime” by Paul McCartney (40) or “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” by Band Aid (57).

The highest newcomer is the rapper Luciano (“In A Minute”) in 14th place.

Linkin Park remain at number one for albums

The US band Linkin Park was able to stay at number one in the album charts with “From Zero”. The new work “Dämmerland” bydämmerland comes in second. “With “Dämmerland”, Malte Hoyer and Hannes Braun have created an ambitious fantasy project that includes a 224-page book, a seven-hour-long radio play and an album containing 16 songs,” explains GfK Entertainment about the project. The two Versengold and Kissin’ Dynamite frontmen were supported by countless guests from the medieval, metal and folk scenes.

The rest of the top five are also new albums: third place goes to the Swedish metal band Opeth (“The Last Will And Testament”), fourth place goes to shock rocker Marilyn Manson (“One Assassination Under God – Chapter 1”) and fifth place Place goes to Rammstein keyboardist Flake Lorenz (“Flake celebrates Christmas”).

The songwriter Reinhard Mey lands again on the seven with the work “In Aschaffenburg – The Rediscovered Tour 1992 (Live)”.
