Jennifer Hudson: Her son helped her with the Christmas album

Jennifer Hudson (43) received very special support for her first Christmas album, which was released in October. Like her, her son and her boyfriend played a key role in “The Gift of Love”.

Her son David Daniel Otunga Jr. (15) helped with the name of the album. “We sat by the fireplace and watched Christmas movies together. He even said, ‘Mom, this song is my favorite song on the Christmas album.’ And gave his opinion on it.” But that shouldn’t have been difficult for the teenager because: “He’s a Christmas fanatic, just like me. He was very present during the whole thing.” The singer, presenter and actress has further words of praise for her son: “He’s encouraging, he helped me learn different notes.” So the whole process was “family-oriented”.

In addition to her son, her partner also helped create the album. Rapper Common (52) recorded the song “Almost Christmas” with her. In it they would “weld their musical worlds together,” explained Hudson. “The Gift of Love” is her first Christmas album and marks a return to music. She most recently released “Respect” in 2021 and “JHUD” in 2014.

By the way, it has long been clear how she celebrates Christmas: Jennifer Hudson will spend the holidays with her son in her hometown of Chicago, like every year. “We call it ‘flying in for Christmas,'” the 43-year-old revealed. Then there are cozy hours on the program – and her son likes to give gifts. “He’s a giver. And that’s how he was raised. That’s the tradition that’s in him. He’s a lot like me.
