The origin of the idea behind the interview of Susana and La Mary
Juan Manuel Funes Szelagowski explained how the idea was conceived: “We always talk with Noe Antonelli, my partner and CEO of our creative studio, about crazy ideas. In one of those talks the proposal arose with Luli Varelaexecutive producer of Susana, to do something with Artificial Intelligence.” The talks began in August, and after approval in September, the project came to life in commemoration of the 50 years of La Mary.
The project faced multiple challenges due to its unprecedented nature. “The process was a great challenge, especially because the interview required spontaneity, something that goes against this technology,” said Funes Szelagowski. To achieve the greatest authenticity, an actress was selected who shared Susana’s physical build at that time and who could go head-to-head with the diva.

Once the actress was selected, concern arose about how Susana would react, but it quickly faded. “Susana was encouraged to play. We showed the actress processed with the AI and she understood perfectly. He took the interview on his shoulder, defining the guidelines and topics to be discussed,” said Funes Szelagowski.
The creative director highlighted Susana’s comfort with La Mary’s questions, which allowed her to open up about personal topics such as her relationship with her mother and Carlos Monzón. “On the day of filming, we all felt that La Mary was in the studio, and it was all thanks to Susana,” he added.
La Mary creation process
The creation of La Mary required months of work in pre-production and post-production. “We took a lot of audiovisual material from Susana, especially from La Mary, and an AI model was trained,” explained Funes Szelagowski. The voice was also replicated after analyzing numerous interviews from the time to synthesize a voice with Artificial Intelligence.
This project is a global commitment, being the first time in history that this technology has been used for an interview. “There is no precedent for this crazy thing we did. We are proud to have done it in Argentina, during prime time, with a diva like Susana,” said Funes Szelagowski, highlighting Telefe’s courage in betting on this innovation.
