At the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in the Norwegian capital, Crown Princess Mette-Marit and her husband Haakon presented themselves as a unit.
When the Nobel Prizes are awarded in Oslo and Stockholm, it is usually a glamorous occasion for the country’s royals. This year too, Crown Princess Mette-Marit and Crown Prince Haakon appeared together and applauded the Japanese anti-nuclear weapons organization Nihon Hidankyo, which was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. They did their best to smile away their worries about Marius Borg Høiby. After Mette-Marit’s 27-year-old son from a previous relationship was arrested in August, the negative headlines surrounding him increased. There was talk of drug abuse and violence, and most recently even rape. Borg Høiby is now in rehab. The awarding of the other Nobel Prizes in Stockholm was far more glamorous – and possibly also more relaxed. The Swedish royals appeared there in festive robes.
