Three national novelties among the week’s premieres

December 13, 2024 – 2:43 p.m.

They are the fiction feature films “Alter ego”, by Ezio Massa, “The borders of time”, by Sergio Acosta, and the documentary “El agujerito”, by Ana Hayzus and Eijall Questa, about the legendary record store of the 60s in Eastern Gallery

A film made in the US, another in Misiones, both by people from the interior, and a documentary that takes us back to the good times of the Galería del Este, make up the national premieres of the week.

From Formosa living in New Jersey, author of “Villa” and other credible action and horror films, and producer of some of his friends’ horror films, all made here and there, and all low-cost independents, Ezio Massa now presents an interesting game, “Alter ego”where a semi-paranoid writer decides to kill his character, but maybe the character wants to do the same to him, or maybe someone real appears with the same name as the fictional creature and the same intentions. There is fabric to cut, beyond entertainment. In the cast, Eric Roberts like a detective close to retirement. In the team, Daniel de la Vega, Tetsuo Lumiere and other friends. Filming in Nyack, a town next to the Hudson River and the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery (as if to inspire joy).

Natives of Misiones, Sergio Acostadirector, and Carmen Nuni Ferreirascreenwriter, debut with “The borders of time”a drama entirely made in his province. The cast and crew are also from the province, which has its own film law and audiovisual arts institute. This is one of its first fruits, still a little green but with an interesting plot, where a radio journalist reveals two family secrets: the death by suicide of her grandmother and the real formation of her family, one of those things that usually happen in the interior, they are accepted as natural, but they remain silent because they are shameful. Filming in Posadas and Garupá. Other films would come later, including “A single spring”of Joaquin Pedrettiwith the valuable Majo Cabreraco-production with Corrientes and Paraguay.

Finally, “The little hole”short documentary Ana Hayzus and Eijall Questa about the famous record store created in 1969 by the brothers Epsteinwho had the luxury of going to New York to replenish merchandise and counting among their clients and friends the most renowned bohemia and leftist groups of the moment. The name of the place was proposed by the multifaceted Jorge Schussheimwith imaginable mischief. The memories range from Leon Giecothen a dazzled boy who came from the countryside, to the owner of the neighboring bar Barbudos, the essential Susana Epstein, Claudio Gabis and many others, including some who, with the passage of time, become confused even though they seem to remember. Maybe emotion dominates them.
