Each December 14 is celebrated all over the world International Monkey Day. This date was established in 2003 and has been celebrated since then. It arose from some students from the University of Michigan who turned the day into an artistic event with exhibitions of sculptures, paintings and even themed parties in honor of all the monkeys.

Currently, There are approximately 260 species of monkeysbut there are 25 in particular that are in danger of extinction. Therefore, the anniversary aims to raise awareness about this situation to help prevent it from happening, in addition to celebrating and making known curiosities about these friendly animals whose intelligence is quite similar to that of human beings.

One of the main reasons to celebrate Monkey Day is to make known what the endangered speciesamong them the blue-eyed black lemur, the eastern lowland gorilla, the Dollman’s monkey, the spider monkey, the Rondo Galago and the Capuchin Monkey. But also, it is a good opportunity to share information that you did not know about this animal.

The main causes of the danger of extinction of these species is the poaching and the black marketwhich pays large sums of money or weapons in exchange for these particular animals. This makes the claim more meaningful and the day is celebrated as a rallying cry to avoid these injustices against the monkeys.

Curiosities of monkeys

Following all the biological research and scientific evidence of evolution, the resemblance between monkeys and humans is quite obvious, but it is curious that clet’s share up to 95% of the genes with these animals. Among the funniest characteristics is humor, they smile like human beings and have a great ability to communicate and make jokes with each other or other animals.

On the other hand, they are also capable of becoming depressed, feeling very sad and even dying of love. They are also capable of showing disapproval in situations, either to their children or to their peers when they don’t like something.
