In a new interview, Iris Berben spoke about her Christmas traditions and the meaning of the contemplative season.
In just a few days, acting icon Iris Berben (74) will be back on German cinema screens. In “Der Nickname” by director Sönke Wortmann (65), after “Der Surname” from 2022, she appears again alongside “Stromberg” star Christoph Maria Herbst (58). Berben has now given an insight into her own Christmas traditions.

“Christmas was always the most beautiful three days of the year that I can remember in my childhood,” Berben noted in the conversation. There was always “a nice, warm and secure feeling”. But the Berbens’ Christmas has been a lot smaller since the death of their mother Dorothea.
During the contemplative Christmas holidays, the German world star is also at the stove himself. “I like cooking, that’s true,” reveals Berben. It’s “simply a nice ritual that we all eat together at home at Christmas. By the way, that’s something we’ve all forgotten a little bit.”
“The Nickname” opens in German cinemas on December 19th. The comedy continues the story of its predecessors “The First Name” (2018) and “The Last Name” (2022). After not playing a major role in the first part of the trilogy, Berben’s character Dorothea rose to become one of the central main characters in “The Last Name”.
