MacKenzie Scott: She donated $2 billion in 2024

The ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos (60) is continuing her extraordinary series of donations: MacKenzie Scott (54) has announced that she will have donated another two billion US dollars to charity in 2024 alone. In total, she considered almost 200 different organizations last year. This brings their total donations over the past five years to over $19 billion.

The billionaire, who currently has a fortune of around $32 billion and is said to be the 6th richest woman or 43rd richest person in the world, has particularly focused her recent donations on institutions that promote economic security and equal opportunities. Around 75 percent of the money went to non-profit organizations that support people in need – for example through affordable housing, education or health care.

The ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has supported around 2,500 charitable organizations since 2019 – without attaching any conditions to the funds. The recipients can decide for themselves how they want to use the donations. “The gratitude I feel for these nonprofits, funds and companies and the gratitude I feel for the people who help me give away these assets is similar,” Scott says of her motivation. She is inspired by all the ways people invest in each other.

The 54-year-old’s wealth comes largely from Amazon shares, which she received after her divorce from Jeff Bezos in 2019. Shortly thereafter, she joined The Giving Pledge and committed to donating at least half of her wealth. Scott rarely speaks publicly and communicates primarily through blog posts on her Yield Giving website.
