William and Kate launch a mental health project in the neighborhood of their Norfolk country home, Anmer Hall.

The British heir to the throne Prince William (42) and his wife Princess Kate (42) are committed to the mental health of their neighbors with a new project. The couple will launch an initiative in early 2025 to support the rural population around their country home, Anmer Hall, in the English county of Norfolk.

“We are very aware of the specific mental health challenges in rural areas, particularly in the farming community,” said Sonja Chilvers, interim chief executive of participating organization Norfolk and Waveney Mind. The charity will run the project together with the royal couple’s Royal Foundation and the Prudence Trust.

Worrying situation in the country

“Rural isolation and mental health problems remain widespread,” Kensington Palace said in a statement. The pilot project is intended to create various contact points and discussion opportunities – from parent-child groups to special men’s groups.

William and Kate know the region well. They regularly spend time at Anmer Hall with their three children, Prince George (11), Princess Charlotte (9) and Prince Louis (6). The family recently retreated there after the children started their Christmas holidays on December 13th.

Model project with a future

“If the project is successful, it could serve as a model for other rural areas and communities in the UK,” emphasizes Chilvers. The initiative includes personal consultations and low-threshold contact points.

Prince William has previously supported the welfare of farmers and highlighted the importance of resilience and mental health in rural areas during a visit to Cornwall in October.

A turbulent one comes to an end

This marks the end of a turbulent year for the royal couple. Following Kate’s cancer diagnosis and successful chemotherapy treatment, which she completed in September, her Christmas card featured a moment from the video in which she announced her recovery.

“We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,” reads the message on the card, – with a sparkling Christmas tree and falling artificial snow in the background.
